Hearst’s Castle is one of the most beautiful spots in the entire state of California.
I can say this with some kind of authority having been a resident of California for over 50 years living in south, central and northern California and having traveled and camped all over the entire state over the 5 decades.
Located just outside the town of San Simeon, south of Big Sur. The castle, or La Cuesta Encantada—Spanish for “Enchanted Hill” as it was called, sits high atop the local hills overlooking the ocean below. A tour of property is a step back in time into the historical items ranging from tapestries to ceilings to furniture all gathered from far off places that were world’s away from in both time and distance.
I’ve had the good fortune to travel to Hearst’s Castle numerous times over the decades with family and friends. Been there by car, motorcycle, several different Recreational Vehicles and even by a motorcycle with a sidecar (read about that story here:

For this trip I went with relatives (by plane and car) and we took the Grand Rooms Tour which is the best one over all to see the most of the castle estate. I’ve done almost all the other tours but I always recommend the Grand Rooms Tour first.
This movie below is from my latest trip.
