The Streets of Memphis

January 2018

Spent some time working in Memphis Tennessee this past January.  It was the first time I had ever been to the city that I had heard so much about all my life.

Have I mentioned I am a huge fan of music? Memphis is the birthplace of Rock n Roll.

Needless to say I was very excited to be visiting and working in Memphis Tennessee!

For this trip I was working with several other co-workers who had been to Memphis a few times before, one even lived here for a while. After our work days they showed me around and took me to a few of the famous tourist spots.

While in Memphis I was fortunate enough to get to see Sun Records, Elvis Presley’s Graceland, Gibson’s Guitar Factory, The Rock n Soul Museum, BB King’s Restaurant, several BBQ joints and more.

On the very first day we arrived in Memphis, it snowed and iced over the city and the entire town came to a complete standstill.

This was the first time I’ve ever experienced an ice storm and it was crazy, there was a sheet of ice on the streets and sidewalks all over that was 2 to 4 inches thick in places.

This made walking anywhere very precarious and dangerous and the ice was almost impossible to drive on with the tires slipping having problems gripping, needless to say it was very slow going at times. Thankfully one of my co-workers who was from Michigan was very experienced with this weather and drove us around safely to our destinations.

It was actually amazing we were able to get around at all. So many places were closed because workers could not get there safely. Eventually the weather improved and the snow and ice soon melted.

We drove all over town a lot going to and from our customer sites and to our hotel and to dinners out. We did our best to check out as much as we could after work hours.

Here are a few photos shot taken around the streets of Memphis.

There was some really cool street art to be found.

The sports arena was nice and there was a game going on one day while we were here.

The architecture of many of the historic houses was incredible, this particular house was called the Lowenstein Mansion and is part of what’s called Millionaire row in Memphis.

The Bass Pro Pyramid was a very interesting to see. One night we ventured out and went inside, wait until you see what it looks like in there! (more on that in another post soon)

I’ve got a more stories to tell about Memphis and all the different places that I got to visit while in town. This city is now in my top 10 favorite places I’ve been in the USA.

Thanks for checking out my travel blog!

Cheers!
